Formal Vs. Informal: the Differences between Sorority Recruitment

Becoming a sorority girl throughout my junior year in college was something that I could’ve never ever imagined for employment myself. I participated in August 2024; going through the casual process in order to get my beloved bid. Last month, I got to experience formal recruitment for the extremely very first time. I thought I would go over today the differences between the 2 recruitments and my recommendations on sorority life.

What is Formal Recruitment?

Formal recruitment is a procedure that includes several days of rounds to get “matched” with the best house. Each round might become harder due to being visited particular sororities. When you think about formal recruitment, believe of Bama Rush. The OOTDs, the numerous yelling ladies opening the yellow envelopes, and the extravagant sorority home filled with charm on the within and out.

Although Virginia Tech’s sorority recruitment is not as intensive as Bama Rush, it does follow a great deal of the same protocols. There are four rounds within rush: Open House, Philanthropy, Sisterhood and Preference. After each round, your home alternatives become narrower, causing the final day: Bid Day. Bid Day is where you receive an invite to the sorority you are matched with.

Being a recruiter, employment this experience was quite cool to see. I loved seeing all the PNMs personalizations of their attire and seeing if they would fit well within my sorority. The process also helped me gain more detailed relationships within my own sorority, as we needed to interact to make sure rush went as efficiently as possible.

What is Informal Recruitment?

Informal recruitment is a process that’s much calmer than formal recruitment. Usually, it is a COB process (constant open bidding), meaning the sorority will gradually give PNMs with quotes throughout the timespan of the recruitment.

The process generally involves a small sorority event where you meet some of the sis and after that you might fulfill a sister one-on-one.

The cool feature of is that you can select your house you want and not be forced to see the other houses. But the only thing that may happen is the specific sorority you want may not provide casual. This depends upon the sorority’s numbers. If they have adequate numbers and/or simply do not wish to do casual recruitment, employment you may not be able to hurry that particular sorority. Also, some sororities do invite-only informal recruitment. It is very important to keep in mind that casual is a terrific choice, however it might not be used all of the time.

Which recruitment is much better for me?

Well, employment it depends. If you desire the possibility to see all of your homes on your university campus, it is best to do official. Formal provides you the opportunity to see all of the houses and discover more about the sisters and the history of the sororities.

If you are currently set on what home you want, casual recruitment may be the finest alternative. But once again, you should beware that some sororities may not provide this choice.

How do I understand if I wish to remain in a sorority?

TRY IT! See if you like it. I didn’t understand if I would like to remain in a sorority and I was so terrified to attempt it. Once I found my sorority, employment I felt that I discovered my home far from home. I felt convenience from the females I was surrounded by, and I feel so much love each time I walk in your home doors.
